E-mailing with some picture on mobile phones is called Sha-Mail in Japan. Originally Sha-Mail was a word for summer campaign by J-Phone (Softbank in 2013) in 2001. By the way, NTT docomo called it i-shot and au named it photo mails at the time. The more popular Sha-Mail became, the more spread mobile phones with cameras got in Japan. Now, Sha-Mail is a registered trademark of Softbank in 2013.
