Baird Brewing, they are a Japanese beer brewery established in Shizuoka. Limitedly during autumn, they brew a seasonal ale; Country Girl Kabocha Ale every year. It must satisfy your heart in autumn with its gentle perfume and taste.

Autumn makes us poets without mentioning about fallen leaves wet, and yet winter doesn’t get. Is that there because of the upcoming end of the year? Or since it is getting colder and colder? Whatever, nobody would deny we have felt some lonesome emptiness and got to be sort of poetical.

Now, what kind of beer should we have in that lonely season? In poetic time, it is natural we need poetical beer, and we found the beer brewed by Baird Brewing in Numazu city, Shizuoka. That’s Country Girl Kabocha Ale.

Think Kabocha is a Japanese pumpkin which tastes sweet, and you must guess it is only the same as some pumpkin ale. Although they usually put some cinnamon and clove into pumpkin ale, Baird Brewing never uses them and uses just kabocha that they grew in chemical-free cultivation all by themselves.

Memories always let us feel nostalgic and so close to naked emotions. And then, we are almost poets. Bryan Baird, he is a producer of Baird Brewing. He originally created Country Girl Kabocha Ale from his memories, in which his mother Sally had been elected to Miss Pumpkin of a rural town when she was a girl. That is to say, Country Girl Kabocha Ale includes some kind of native air which awakens your lyre.

Moreover, we found another reason why Country Girl Kabocha Ale can suit autumn and can be poetical. Poetry comes from our personal feelings any time. Individual is poetry. On the other hand, poetry cannot be itself without something common to all. Namely, poems need high-graded cohabitation of the contradictions. Baird Brewing realizes it in the ale.

“Balance + Complexity = Character,” that is their motto on brewing any beer. Founded on their philosophy, they also brew Country Girl Kabocha Ale. It is the beer of autumn not just since they use the seasonal ingredient, however also because the ale based on their motto essentially expresses the poetic mood in fall.

They put well-boiled kabocha into the wort and ferment. So we can feel great harmony of ale and kabocha. It softly flavors kabocha after a gulp and seems to nestle close to our sentimental mind in fall so tenderly. Before you take a cup of the ale, you wouldn’t meet beautiful winter.
