Hyogo is a neighbor of Osaka, and the prefecture is very famous as a place which produces bags and shoes. Seiban is one of companies that have made bags in Hyogo. They have produced “Tenshi no Hane;” a type of satchels. The special bags are very popular in Japan.

In Japan, elementary school children almost have their own satchels called “RANDOSERU.” Parents or grandparents give it to their child or grandchild when he enters his primary school. That is a common sight in Japan. Then, Tenshi no Hane is a kind of RANDOSERU that about 30 % of Japanese select according to Seiban shipment data. .

There are many colors on RANDOSERU. Boys almost chose black and girls had red in old times when I was an elementary school child. But, in 21st century, the silent rule has mostly gone. Everyone tends to select his or her favorite color today.

Now, let me explain about Seiban for a little time. A predecessor of Seiban was founded in 1919 Osaka. World War 2 gave them great confusion and after a while, they began to produce RANDOSERU in 1946 Hyogo.

Tenshi no Hane, which means angel’s feather, was not in Showa era yet. They needed three years to develop and then, released in 2003.

It is said Seiban produces Tenshi no Hane as a satchel children easily carry on their backs. It is very light and hard to get out of shape. The bags are filled with prayer that says children enjoy their six years with Tenshi no Hane.

It is also found that Seiban treats their craftsmen right. I asked “why do you keep staying in Hyogo besides Osaka and Tokyo?” Seiban answered “We cannot produce Tenshi no Hane without skilled artisans.”
