“Friday” is a weekly pictorial magazine published by Kodansha since 1984. With photographs, that reports scandals which go on in the political worlds and the entertainment one. As the title means, every Friday it is on sale.

In Japan, speaking of pictorial magazines, “Friday” must be raised. It means very popular. He must know when a trueborn Japanese, even if his belief says vulgar are all of weekly pictorial magazines. Japanese personalities often say “I have got fridayed” when their gossip get scooped. Friday has been a proper noun and a verb like Google.

We can hardly find any dignity, grace and virtue looking around the contents of the magazine. Like the first number carried some photographs of Mishima Yukio’s freshly severed head. Naturally, it got a news blackout right away by a protest of his wife.

There is moderate reason that “Friday” has survived through raging waves, however. In 2006 fall, Hosono Goshi, a Democratic member of the House of Representatives resigned for a scandal that he had an illicit love affair with Yamamoto Mona, a female freelance announcer. That ill fame was fired first by “Friday.”

They can be called Ultimate Vulgar which gives fear to fame all the time. You have to be afraid of a bite or two by “Friday” if you got well-known. Their covering is obstinate and uncommon, which is supposed to have made their 31 years running.

According to research of Japan Magazine Publishers Association, in fact, its circulation was 260,000. (January - March, 2015)
