About our introductory articles

Hello, everyone. I'm so glad to see you here with me now. Today I'm talking about Matsu☆Kiyo, a conversation book by Matsuko DX and Ikeda Kiyohiko. It was first published by Shincho-sha in 2011, and then the pocket edition was released in 2014. Out of print in the present 2019 March, I feel very sorry.

Who on earth are they? you might ask. Alright, I'm introducing them first.

Matsuko DX is a Japanese popular TV personality with a big body born in 1972 Chiba, Japan. He is well-known as a gay man who loves to disguise himself as a woman. So he looks like a middle-aged woman with a big body. I suppose it is not difficult for you finding him on the air in Japan.

Ikeda Kiyohiko (1947-) is a Japanese biologist. He entered Tokyo University of Education for studying biology in 1966. Had been a professor in Waseda Univ. from 2004 to 2018. Today he is registered as one of the honorary professors. He is also famous as a person who loves to collect sawyer beetles, has been familiar with Yoro Takeshi who loves to collect weevils.

Why did they decide to talk and release the conversation book together? In 2009, they met at a Japanese TV show of Fuji Television. Ikeda Kiyohiko was called to talk from the biological point of view. Matsuko DX gradually got interested in Ikeda. One day, he offered Ikeda an official conversation and Ikeda said OK.

Just before it was held, Tōhoku Earthquake happened on March 11, 2011. Naturally, they put it off. The great earthquake also gave Tokyo some damage. After a while, it was held in peace. They talked about their thoughts frankly at the conversation.

They frankly talked about the earthquake, an information‐oriented society, nuclear power generation, Japan's politics, and the way of life of the minority. Matsuko DX was as a gay man who loves to disguise himself as a woman, and Ikeda was as a distinguished biologist whose suggestions were almost ignored by the public somehow, talking there.

It means the conversation book shows what some of Japanese people actually faced just after the earthquake. For instance, Ikeda said his wife had got bad on the back by watching TV reports of the earthquake and tsunami (the pocket edition, 2014, p23-24). I am not sure it has been translated into your language. But I would really like you to know what the two told and showed just after the disaster, if you are kind of interested in.
