During a certain period in summer, they hold an event that living people go through with those from the other world in the Yaeyama district including Ishigaki Island. That is "Angama."
In the "Angama," Usyumai (old man) and Nmi (old woman) come to this world with their children (farmer). And the group parades to various places like hotels, nursery schools and houses of celebration.
Farmers play musical instruments following a couple of Usyumai and Nmi. They visit some houses and bow to their family Buddhist altars. Then, they show their dance. Moreover, Usyumai and Nmi give us interesting talks.
We can say "Angama" is based on an old thought which we should spend several days with those from the next world in summertime.
By the local newspaper and magazines, you can get a schedule of the Angama parade in advance. However, it is said to be not rare that they suddenly change their target houses and schedule.
You can get in the garden of homes the Angama parade comes to, and freely look on. Of course, you have to be well-mannered. Such a big-hearted manner shows Okinawa spirit, I consider.
