About our introductory articles

What happened in 1929? If you have learnt world history in school, you will answer the Great Depression happened. Of course, it is correct. What is the Great Crash (Great Depression)? The New York Stock Exchange got the stock market crash in 1929 autumn, and the bubble economy (a boom) burst.

World history tells World War 1 finished in 1918 November. America didn't join the war directly, and they only loaned the war expenditures to the concerned like UK and France. Naturally, a lot of money flowed to America after the war ended. America was a world moneylender at the time, and 1920's was their golden age. European countries (especially Germany) were mostly in an exhausted condition for the World War 1. America loaned to them, and a lot of money including interest flowed back to America soon. Without doing anything special, they could gain an enormous sum. You can know how it was actually by reading some essays of F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author of the Great Gatsby (1925) and Tender Is the Night (1934). In the end of 1920's, flowers got dead. It influenced over the world. A world moneylender fell down, and others also. This is the Great Crash.

Apart from the Great Crash, one natural water product appeared at the same time in East of Japan. In 1929 summer, a Japanese businessman Horiuchi Ryohei (1870 - 1944) established a company to deal with a natural water product. It is the first natural water product in Japan. It was named Nippon Evian at the beginning, and renamed Fuji Mineral Water in 1946.

After he passed away and the World War ended, it seems that the natural water has been popular among celebrities. It is said the water has supplied at international conferences like Tokyo Summit (1979) and Ise-shima Summit (2016). And some say it has been loved in the Imperial Household.

Horiuchi Ryohei established a company and released it as mentioned above. Then, I guess knowing what Horiuchi Ryohei was can bring us to the right place telling what Fuji Mineral Water is.

In 1870, he was given birth to in a small village of Yamanashi. What did he do in his life? To say shortly, he managed to develop his birthplace Yamanashi (including Fuji) for tourism. He improved the transport network like railways and buses in East of Japan including Yamanashi and Tokyo. He is also well-known as the Tokyo Metropolitan Bus founder. Without mentioning about him, we are so difficult to talk about modernization of Yamanashi in a good way.

Today you (maybe) know that Mt. Fuji is a popular tourist spot in Japan. Mt. Fuji works as an important symbol of Japan. We can see many tourists around Fuji all the time no matter how rainy or snowy it is. Some will say that the credit goes to Horiuchi Ryohei. I don't deny it.

They say Fuji Mineral Water was originally sampled within a site of the Minobu Line which goes in Yamanashi and Shizuoka. Of course, Horiuchi established the line. But there is a question. Why did he sample the natural water and decide to sell it? As mentioned above, it is the first Japan-made natural water on sale. It means unprecedented before the water appeared. Why?

Let me show my opinion here. I guess he launched the water as a part of the Fuji campaign. He tried hard to develop Yamanashi including Fuji. He must've utilized anything available. Some pure natural water was sampled in Fuji. Oh, good! It would be a good advertising material. He must've thought so, I think. This is just my personal opinion, and don't take it seriously please. And why do many celebrities love to drink such water? I have no way to grasp.
