Japanese Clothing
the Producer of SOU・SOU

Wakabayashi Takeshi

< 12, Jul, 2012 >

SOU・SOU, it is a Japanese clothing brand which was established in Kyoto, Japan and lately has developed in not only Kyoto however also Tokyo or San Francisco. The brand’s representative producer is Wakabayashi Takeshi and he was interviewed this time.

■Let me begin the interviewing now.

Wakabayashi: Come on you can.

■At the first, let me ask this question. How come the name of the brand became SOU・SOU?

W: That is why it is a brand some Japanese established in Japan. Therefore I liked to name in Japanese. SOU・SOU is a Japanese word when we often use to give responses or to chime in, and is easy to pronounce and very catchy. Then we decided the name SOU・SOU.

■SOU・SOU was established in 2002. And 2012 is the 10th anniversary year. In this decade, what is the most impressive?

W: Well…impressive…For instance, we held an exhibition of SOU・SOU's Jikatabi in New York and there a pair of our Jikatabi, over 10,000 yen, was bought by a creative director of Ralph Lauren. Or Tawaraya, a long-established Japanese-style hotel in Kyoto, started to carry on our articles and Steven A. Spielberg, a popular film director in America, bought some of them there.

■Here appear big names.

W: Surely, they are very famous. That hardly matters, however. If anything, it made me very happy that they carried on our goods at Tawaraya. They are experts in Japanese culture and have appreciated our articles. Foreigners bought some of our wares, it surely made us so glad. But they few understand because they do not have roots in Japanese culture.
