A Love Story Featuring the Star Festival
Seventh of July, it is a day of the Star Festival. There is the custom in Sendai to have fine noodles on 7 July. Or it is the custom in Hokkaido that children make a round for receiving candles. Like those, a lot of customs are all over Japan. The origin of the Star Festival was from China. Then, there are customs to celebrate the day in Taiwan or Hong Kong besides Japan. In Taiwan, they say the day is Vega's birthday.
To simply explain the Star Festival story, one day there was a beautiful weaver girl called Vega, who lived near the Milky Way. The woman got married with Altair a cattleman. And they were too much in love to work enough. Naturally their neighborhood made complaints. The Master of the Milky Way received the petitions since he was a go-between of the couple. To let the couple concentrate upon each work, he put the Milky Way between them. That meant making the two completely separated. And the Master gave the couple a chance to meet once a year. It is seventh of July.
