About our introductory articles

Hello. Today I'm talking about "delicious way" the first studio album of Kuraki Mai. What is Kuraki Mai? She is a Japanese female singer who was born in 1982 October, and debuted with a single "Love, Day After Tomorrow" in 1999 December. Nobody had probably expected, but it suddenly became a million-seller.

It means that she suddenly became a star while her debut. And she released four singles (including "Love, Day After Tomorrow") before "delicious way" was out. Then, in 2000 June, the first studio album was released. It contains all four single songs. The "delicious way" sold over 3.5 million inside Japan. Of course, it is a big hit without any doubt. And it became the best-seller in 2000.

She was a singer, but not a creator. It means that she composed and arranged no songs. Some external musicians like Ohno Aika composed, and some lyricists including Mai wrote the words. Most of the songs were arranged by Cybersound. Who were they? Cybersound was a music production group in Boston, who consisted of several American musicians like Perry Geyer and Michael Africk.

It means that the "delicious way" songs were almost produced in Boston, MA, America. In fact, I can't help hesitating to introduce it as "Japan-made." Kuraki Mai herself is a Japanese female singer as told above. Nobody disagrees with it. The songs were almost made in America, but. In other words, it is just like a Japanese female mannequin who dressed in an America-made suit.

Anyway, it became the 2000 best-seller.

Japan is practically a subject state of America, as you know. Japanese people mostly recognize, and they seldom talk about recapturing Okinawa the United States has held for a long time. Some must get surprised. However, that is reasonable. Japan has been a subject state of America too long. It is too long for them to think independently. In other words, Japanese people have heavily depended on America, and sadly, they became (almost) impossible to think of "Japan without America."

To most Japanese people, being subordinate to America is very natural. You might feel pity for Japan. What do I desire to say? Even if Kurai Mai were a Japanese female mannequin who dressed in an America-made suit, most of Japanese people would accept her as a Japan-made one without a question. So, actually, "delicious way" were put at the "J-Pop" segment and sold over 3.5 million.
