We often see they compare movements of wristwatches to car engines. As you know, movements mean driving and regulating parts of a mechanism like watches. Although we never see any regulations like F1 among movements of wristwatches, movements surely mean hearts of watches like engines.

Speaking of cars, on selecting a car, Japanese have recently tended to think about its environmental performance, as fuel efficiency. Do not wristwatches have to guess about environmental performance? In fact, since old time, some Japanese watchmakers have tried to produce the environment-friendly watch. Now, let us introduce one of them right here.

Citizen is one of Japanese popular watchmakers and also one of the biggest movement producers in the world as there are many famous brands which use their movements on manufacturing wristwatches. Eco-Drive is a kind of their wristwatches.

Owing a quartz wristwatch, it brings you a problem which you must change its battery once in several years. Having to pay some thousands yen for the changing, you feel tiresome. It is wasteful the changed batteries could be nothing but waste on environment. Citizen decided to produce a wristwatch kind to environment and economy in 1970s. No need to change its battery, since Eco-Drive charges its battery with solar power.

They released the first wristwatch of photovoltaics; Digital 13 Solarcell in November 1977. After about 20 years, in November 1995, Citizen published their first model named Eco-Drive. It must let you know that was born from their continuous process of trial and error for enhancing the quality.
