About our introductory articles

Do you know about Shimenawa? In the Shinto religion like Japan, you can often look at the ropes if you visit some shrines or so. That means lengths of rice straw rope and they have used for classifying a pure area like shrines and usual world with a sacred barrier since old times.

Shimenawa
for Your Entrance

By the way, you can always find out the biggest Shimenawa in Japan at Miyajidake Shrine, Fukutsu-shi, Fukuoka.

In Japanese normal families, they use it as yorishiro around New Year’s Day. Lately, it has almost been usual to begin displaying Shimenawa at your entrance or your household shrine from Christmas Day to 28 of December. They say it is impolite to put that after 29 of December because it looks like cramming for coming deities.

for Your Household Shrine

On the other hand, there are many different times to put off for zones though they mostly do on 7 of January. But they display Shimenawa all year around in a region. That can be seen in Ise-Shima area of Mie that has Grand Shrine at Ise.

Since 1938, Miyachu has constructed shrines, established in Ise-shi, Mie. Recently, they have produced and launched a lot of kinds of equipment for rituals and everyone can get. Of course they produce Shimenawa. In 1980s, they were praised as great technicians by the then governor of Mie prefecture. So you never have to be afraid when you try to buy.

Please try displaying their Shimenawa at your front door in the right way once. Perhaps you will face good luck and happiness.
