About our introductory articles

The first of Uni, whose penholders had "Super Drawing."

Japanese old people over age sixty often say “I guess Mitsubishi’s pencils are considered as an article of quality.” In 1958, Japanese were usually able to have a pencil when they paid about five to ten yen. But you had to pay fifty yen for one sort produced by Mitsubishi Pencil. That was “Uni.” How come such a high-graded pencil has become their long seller?

“Uni” is from UNIQUE. It means they are not just an article of quality, however also have created unparalleled value themselves on the image and usability. The cause of the long hit must be found there although it might be sure that they were pushed by the wind of Japanese economic growth.

I am mentioning about difference between “Uni” and usual ones. In French, “Uni” means smooth. They made the smoothness on writing out of their hard try to mix graphite and clay; materials of the leads. Moreover, the color is never seen on anything else. They combined wine red and reddish brown; one of Japanese traditional colors, and added a golden ribbon. You must feel indubitable highness, must not you?

Anyway, I suppose most Japanese are already conscious of its popularity. They say we use paper less than we used to. But it is said “Uni” has still sold well. Not only business effort of Mitsubishi Pencil, it must be because of their credit and priority which have been as a fruit of long years. To say relatively, the prices deserve something advanced no more. But “Uni” still keeps high grade sense and wonderful usability. That is the unique value “Uni” products have for a long time established.

Mitsubishi Pencil, a company of “Uni,” has perfectly been unconnected with the Mitsubishi Group since their establishment, by the way. In fact, Mitsubishi Pencil foremost registered the identical trademark though the two have used the logo mark by mutual consent.
