No Japanese winter without using disposable heating pads, now. Until Edo Era, we Japanese used hot stones wrapped in some cloths instead of the heating pads. The first of recent disposable heating pads was developed by Asahi Kasei Industry in 1975. Surprisingly the first pads were limitedly sold in Kyusyu, Japan, although it is hotter in Japan.
