There is the Chiyomusubi brewery in Sakai-minato city, Tottori. No other breweries in the city. One of their rice shochu products “Nekomata Shochu” truly does give you taste of Tottori.

Nekomata Shochu

First, I would tell you what Nekomata is. It is a supernatural monster in Japanese folklore. They look like a cat with two tails. Neko means cat in Japanese language. “Cats get old and then, become Nekomata that leads you astray” said Arai Hakuseki; a Japanese popular scholar-bureaucrat in Edo era.

How come it brings us taste of Tottori? Since brewed and steamed there? The answer is that they use rice produced in Tottori and natural spring water of the mountain. They say they take an hour to go to draw every day.
According to their exposition, “Nekomata Shochu” belongs to their private brand and then, it is not introduced on their website. In the sense, it can be as rare as Nekomata.
My recommendation says it is better to cool and drink. You can enjoy rice’s sweetness slightly on your tongue. It tastes kind of Japanese sake, not shochu, maybe because they are originally a brewery of Japanese sake. Why not try rice shochu of Tottori?
