Kaguraya is a Japanese unique bag producer built in Kurashiki, Okayama. They use tatami-beri (the borders of tatami) for their bags.

Why have they used tatami-beri for making their bags? It's said that they there produce most of tatami-beri which Japanese people use. About 80 % of total domestic production amount, surprisingly. By the way, the left 20 % is in Fukui. It means that Kurashiki is a town of tatami-beri. It's natural that tatami-beri bags were born there.

In the first place, Okayama is famous for fibers like the area used to be popular for their tabi in old days, to say nothing of the Kokura-ori which was developed based on cotton growing in the Edo era. As you know, Okayama is still famous for wears production like jeans.

Kaguraya was originally a shop of interior goods in Okayama. One day, they produced tatami-beri bags for trial, and those got very popular. Today, the bags are loved all over Japan, not only in Okayama.

Their bags show different colors by angles and light amount. Now, I believe it was born there because the place was Okayama, a district of fibers.
