Sorabe's Leather Bags
Or Resistance to Global Capitalism

About our introductory articles

"Sorabe" is a leather goods brand produced by Seki Masato, a leather artisan in Tokyo. The brand was built in 2014, which might make you feel kind of too new. It's said that Sorabe's leather bags are popular for the simpleness and functionality.

Second (Middle size)
Size W 360 × H 240 mm
Weight 600 g
Price 39,000 yen + tax

To say plainly, Sorabe is too new to have great erudition enough. No reason to have. So we can do naught but talk about the producer, Seki Masato. He had trained belonging to "A Vou," a leather bag atelier from 2007 to 2013. It's said that he was originally a manicurist before entered the leather world.

By the way, Sorabe is a coinage Seki made, which consists of Sora (the sky in Japanese) and Be (be-verb).

Anyway, it's difficult to recommend easily, because Sorabe is just a youngster, in 2017 at least. Being close to Tokyo and interested in leather goods, you can easily try to get in touch with Sorabe. However, most of us are far from Tokyo and difficult to do it. Sorabe is so young that we are almost difficult to find their philosophy and results.

I suppose that Seki doesn't try to get popular over Japan. Just my opinion. He will try to get higher as a leather artisan on the street, without any ambition. No deny the attitude. Bags should be created or adjusted at such a small-scale shop, basically.

Sixth (YOC model)
Size W 250 × H 260 mm
Weight 600 g
Price 32,000 yen + tax

Give me just a while for talking about what's directly unconnected to Sorabe itself. Today, all over Japan, we can find distortion of global capitalism. We, 95% of Japanese people, will never be happy under globalism. Nobody under 40 years old in Japan, probably believes that Japan will be rich again, let alone the bubble economy comes again.

Then, it will be a tramp that we have an idea to live on a small scale. The opposite of global capitalism is, not communism, self-sufficiency. "Sorabe" might be an example of those taking what we should be in the next age in advance.
