Our daily affairs seldom go so touchingly. They are usually casual actions and then, we mostly tend to hope for the stimulation on fictional scenes. It might be a kind of escape.

Yoshida Shuichi has written Women Play Twice; a short story collection. On the novellas, it never functions as a device to flee though it is so interesting.

Including eleven short stories, it makes us have eleven main characters on reading. They are all male goods-for-nothing like a man who uses his unemployment insurance just for playing pinball around, a lazy womanizer, a banal child, and so on. They pass their usual days individually, meet each woman calmly and they take each road for missing the females. Women all get to leave only mysterious impression. It looks desperately beautiful and interesting.

The eleven stories could not let us escape since we could wander inside our minds on reading. Everyone must have lived with the opposite sex as a lover or as a classmate or as a fellow worker. And we must have felt germination of some special emotion to the other sex. Women Play Twice reminds us of that especial feeling and sort of regret.

Thus told a monologue in a short story. It is an element that consists of the collection.

Between past and the present, unintentionally appears the mystery of the sexes. The stories let us recognize a key to solve anew and softly go along with the riddle as a tribute, it is Women Play Twice.
