About our introductory articles

Wondering that was about ten years ago. I had been on friendly terms with a female high-school student. She had moved all over various foreign countries for her father’s job, although both of her parents are Japanese. It is a happy memory that she had often taught me English at her room since she was proficient in foreign languages.

One day, the girl excitedly praised and commended a female artist. Saying listening to songs of the artist made her know beauty of Japanese language, she was worked up. The artist was Hitoto Yo.

Hitoto Yo published her debut single Morai-naki in October 2002, and it let her so famous. Surely, those words were written by Hitoto Yo and they were unique, kind of surrealistic. It may be from her father is Taiwanese and her mom is Japanese. Well, Hitoto Yo released her first collection of the poem in July 2013. It is Min-na Tanoshisou ( Everybody Looks Happy ) .

They say that they compiled her amassed poems apart from her lyrics and published with confidence. Naturally, the collected poems show her life, at times nakedly and at times latently. We readers hear a true voice of a female, a girl rapidly and calmly. It seems lovely but sadly.

Its cover is as unique as her Japanese lyrics. Hitoto Yo drew the picture when she was five years old. Namely, Everybody Looks Happy drastically includes all spirit of Hitoto Yo. When readers notice something born from reading the poems, Hitoto Yo would stand innocently there, looking sadly but lovely.

By the way, the aforementioned female high-school student went on to a university in Melbourne not long after. Then, I had moved some times and we can no more be in touch. I would, however, like her to read this Everybody Looks Happy if she is fine. No matter where she lives in, no matter how far she is, the poems would make her get beauty of Japanese language again.
