About our introductory articles

“What Sweets are Sweeter than Kiss? ( Kiss yori Oishii Okashi wo Oshiete )” is Chiaki’s poetry collection, published in 2001, which collaborates with photos by Ninagawa Mika.

Probably, there would be no people over the latter half of 20s, who never know Pocket Biscuits. They were a band born from a project of a TV variety show in 1996, and released million sellers in succession. Chiaki was a vocalist of the band, and mostly wrote lyrics of their songs.

Surely, Japanese pop music market was quietly lively at the time. How come people so buttressed the planned band? Needless to say, the songs were good. Besides, their success was due entirely to their lyrics. We can find poetical philosophy of girlishness in all Chiaki’s patent words which then people were absorbed in. The evidence is the undermentioned. They released Green Man whose lyrics were written by UDO ( Udo Suzuki ) not Chiaki, in 1997 but it never took the first place on Oricon Chart and never became a million seller.

At the head of the first song of Colorful; their first album, Chiaki sings Pink no Speed de Saratte Itteyo ( Take me away with pink speed ). And the hook of Red Angel sings Akai Kaze ga Fuku Machi ( Some red wind blows through the town ).

When I have to write words of a popular song, I must never get a novel idea to join Pink and Speed together, or put Red and Wind together. I don’t have bold sensibility to do like that. The uncommon sensitivity is supposed to be called poetical.

Women of all ages keep some kind of devil inside. The devil is selfish in some way, obscene in some way, and stargazing in some way. With garish photos by Ninagawa Mika, you can enjoy Chiaki’s girlish poems in “What Sweets are Sweeter than Kiss? ( Kiss yori Oishii Okashi wo Oshiete ).”

Since the book includes some suggestive expression that never runs on TV variety programs, you can taste Chiaki more than songs of Pocket Biscuits. It is said every woman stays a girl. Here shows the eternity of woman.
