About our introductory articles

Shogakukan published “Eyeball Diary” (Menotama Nikki) which is an essay manga comic written and illustrated by a Japanese manga artist; Kobayashi Yoshinori. That faithfully describes his life under medical treatment.

Kobayashi is very well-known for his essay manga “Gōmanism Manifesto.” He plays the main role himself and has thrown his weight against the left, conservatism, Aum Shinrikyo, and the like. Then, Kobayashi has been about to be assassinated. Amazing essay manga is it. However, “Eyeball Diary” is perfectly away from such a dangerous mood.

It begins with a day Kobayashi felt his visibility was kind of poor. But he stood and kept working, because he believed that it was just an occupational disease for manga artists. Then, Kobayashi became unable to stop rain of his tears. He went to a hospital and the doctor said Kobayashi suffered from cataract. Operation awaited him, and…

First of all, rare is the manga which faithfully describes operation for the eyeballs. It really gives you the sight when your eyeball is cut by a surgical knife on operation.

I have interviewed with a female mastering engineer; Koizumi Yuka. She said “Ears are a kind of expendables. Therefore, I always take care.” Any parts of our body are so. We never notice without danger, however. That is our nature. “Eyeball Diary,” it tells you nature of Kobayashi Yoshinori away from the world of thought, namely.
