Have Never Won on Slimming Diets!! is a Japanese essay written by Muroyama Mayumi. It was published by Shogakukan in the end of the 20th century, 1999.
Have you ever heard Muroyama Mayumi? I suppose few have. It is the joint pen name of the Muroyama sisters, Muroyama Mayumi (1955-) and Mariko (1957-). They are manga artists. They have together created some manga in partnership.
Asari-chan is the representative work. It had been serialized from 1978 to 2014.
However, Asari-chan is mostly unrelated to the essay. Both the sisters worried about each figure. And both longed to be slimmer. So they got to be on many kinds of slimming diets. In the essay, they introduced what kinds of slimming diets they had tackled.
I guess slimming diets are a fantasy which many women are absorbed in. Of course, I don't deny the women who try hard to be slim at all. But It seems most of them (in Japan) don't care about where being slimmer brings them to. Get slimmer, and what?
In other words, in Japan, it is difficult to understand what they want to do after being slimmer. Needless to say, there are some women who have urgent need to be slim. But they are few, I think. It looks most of women are on slimming diets without certain targets, they kind of enjoy the diet itself.
Why do they desire to be slim? For instance, there is a girl who longs to be slim and get a boyfriend in this summer. So she gets to be on a slimming diet so hard. What if he is a chubby-chaser, however? In this case, it is difficult to say being on a slimming diet answers the purpose, isn't it? Being slimmer is not always a promise to give you sweet fruits in reality. So I said above that slimming diets were a fantasy which many women were absorbed in.
The Muroyama sisters also got absorbed in the fantasy. Where on earth did it bring them to? Read and check it.
