About our introductory articles

"Tsurezuregusa" is a Japanese classical essay written by Yoshida Kenko. I can't deny that it is the general commonsense spread over the world. However, if we summon him somehow and ask "You're Yoshida Kenko, aren't you?" he will answer no. His true name is Urabe Kaneyoshi. It's said Yoshida Kanetomo put Kaneyoshi into the Yoshidas after he passed away, for utilizing Kaneyoshi's popularity.

Moreover, there's no historical evidence that says it was written by Kaneyoshi. "Tsurezuregusa" includes a lot of things like the world view, small talks and warnings. So it is not so unnatural considering that it was really written by several persons.

But it makes me not begin to talk. Then, let me go using the premise that says he wrote all himself.

As written above, it contains a lot of things which Kaneyoshi really thought of.

One example says "We've lately seen those with weird names. I cannot agree with them. Do you believe it makes you look wiser to give your babies weird names? No problem with normal ones." (Digested by me)

Today, we can still see those with weird names. About 700 years ago, he had also felt like us.

Moreover, he said "Wife is not what men should have." In other words, he recommended being single. It's said that he actually had no wives, no children.

He was disagreeing with marriage system? In other parts, he said "Women are cynical, greedy, and stupid. They suddenly speak their mind, which often makes men surprised. Moreover, they always adorn themselves! Really no honest!" (Digested by me) That's just like a moan by an old man.

However, he's not just writing moans. He also wrote about the way men should take for living well with women. What? Do you want to know? Well, read the essay and check it out!
