About our introductory articles

Everything on Kawageta, the leather sandals produced by Kikkabo, tells you it is just a Japanese-like product for Japanese feet.

Why did they produce leather shoes in Europe? That is because they have had a custom to eat beef from long ago. Leather shoes were basically born as a by-product of having beef.

On the other hand, forefathers of Japanese hardly had such a custom. Instead of leather, they used straw and used to put on geta and zori, you know. Japan has been a country of forests and woods.

We cannot go back to the times anymore. But it is not good for Japanese to ignore history of Japan because we are always standing at the end of the flow. Modern mixture of Japan and the Western, that is what Kawageta produced by Kikkabo in Kyoto must show.

“I wanna create a Japanese-like product for Japanese” thought Mr. Nojima who established Kikkabo, when he belonged to a lady shoe maker in Tokyo. Then, he made up the leather sandals.

Kawageta is not something like a display of being unusual. There are certain reasons for getting popular.

“Every shoe produced by Kikkabo is comfortable to put on, because being comfortable is our minimum requirement as a shoe maker” said Nojima. They use selected case leather for your wearing in relaxation. The edge is bent upward and it makes you so easy to walk in.

Materials, background, shapes…Everything on Kawageta explains it is the best sandals for Japanese people in recent years.
