About our introductory articles

Last time, we mentioned about bamboo specs produced in nowhere but Sabae, Fukui. You might guess like “whatever can be good if they use natural wood, not just bamboos.” Why not try “Tatsuki” which produces wooden frames for eyeglasses in Sabae, Fukui, then?

Tatsuki is the name of the workshop.

Tatsuki-26 53Φ Pink Ivory / Damascening / Sakura
Material: Pink Ivory / Damascening / Sakura
Weight: 10 ~ 20 g
Price: 50,000 JPN + tax

It is said that Tatsuki started by an order. A customer asked the master for wooden-framed eyeglasses and then, he made the pair to order. The master used to belong to a frame producing company and that chance made him enter the gate to the world of wooden frames.

Originally, he almost knew nothing about wood. Then, Kakuno the master is said to have studied a lot collecting materials. As the old saying tells us, “so many trees, so many special features.” Countless trials let him become an artisan.

The wood including water a lot is said to be in danger of deformation after processing. So Kakuno dries securely and keeps the water content 15 % or less. Tatsuki’s eyeglasses are all light though very firm, for his amazing work without compromise.

Tatsuki-13 Diospyros ebenum
Material: Diospyros ebenum
Weight: 10 ~ 20 g
Price: 70,000 JPN + tax

Tatsuki creates fashionable frames of eyeglasses using many kinds of wood like diospyros ebenum, snakewood and so on. I am pretty convinced that it is strongly loved by glasses fans.
