What is Alkali?
Hello, everybody. I'm so glad you are here with me now. Today I'm talking about Alkaline-ion Water, a Japanese natural water product by Kirin.
It is said that they sample natural water in Shizuoka and Gifu, and make it alkaline with electrolysis at their factory. And I have some questions. Why do they have to make it alkaline? What does alkaline water work for? First of all, what is "alkali?"
It is supposed that most adult people have heard Alkali. You have heard, haven't you? I have learnt it at science classes when I was a student. However, I'm so hard to explain what alkali is. I know enough that alkali is antithetic to acidity, but I cannot explain it without acidity. In other words, alkali seems to be never standing alone.
What is Alkali?
One dictionary shows us that it means the Ash in Arabic. Al is "the," and kali is "ash." It means that alkali is ash, but I'm still far from understanding. Why do we have to take ash through drinking natural water? Don't you think so?
Yoro Takeshi, a Japanese popular anatomist whom I have adored a lot in my heart, said most parts of the Europe's earth were alkaline and they hardly melted bones. So there are a lot of skeletons at churches and cemeteries in Europe. On the other hand, most are acid in Japan, and skeletons melt away in the Japan's ground within ten decades or so.
Then, I draw an inference from his saying. Alkali is hard to melt something, isn't it? In other words, it tends to keep something as it is. Alkaline water might interfere with stomach acids, and may cause dyspepsia. Needless to say, this is just what I reasoned. As mentioned above, I'm an outsider at the chemical business. But if what I reasoned is correct, taking alkali aimlessly brings some danger to your body. Usually, you don't clearly get when and how much acidity generates inside your body, do you? Your body is a microcosm as countless ancient sages told. And it means that we don't clearly get when and how much alkali we need.
