About our introductory articles

Bon Curry is the first heat-and-eat curry in the world. It appeared in the 1968 western Japan, spread all over Japan in 1970's. As you have known, there was Okinawa's reversion (from USA) to Japan in 1972. Then Okinawa people are also familiar with Bon Curry. I guess it is no problem you think Japanese people have mostly eaten some kinds of the heat-and-eat curry. How about me? Of course I've had.

Bon Curry have been manufactured and launched by Otsuka Foods (Osaka). The predecessor was CBC Foods (founded in 1955) which was absorbed by Otsuka Chemical in 1964. Today Otsuka Foods have four large factories in Japan. Hokkaido, Shiga, Tokushima and Gunma. And the Tokushima factory mainly manufactures Bon Curry, they say.

Today lie at stores several kinds of Bon Curry like Bon Curry Gold and Bon Curry Neo. You must easily check it when you visit a supermarket in Japan. It means that Bon Curry have been loved amongst Japanese people for a long time (over 50 years!). And then I can say like thus. You can almost get Japanese people's taste for curry, by investigating some types of Bon Curry. Japanese people have spent over five decades with Bon Curry as told above. It became one reference, I guess.

In 2003, Otsuka Foods produced the new Bon Curry you can have with only nuking by a microwave oven. It was the moment that people were surprised at Bon Curry again. The more technology advanced, the more convenient our daily life became. Bon Curry is the proof in a sense. In future, will we see the surprise by Bon Curry again? Or will the old tendency from the 19th century (development by science technology) finish for depletion of natural resources like oil and water before it?
