About our introductory articles

Hello. How are you doing under the Covid-19 Pandemic now? I hope you are fine. I'm talking about Choco Monaka Jumbo today. Do you know anything about it? I suppose you have hardly heard the name. It is a Japanese ice cream product manufactured by Morinaga & Company (not Morinaga Milk Industry). It looks like Monaka with 18 blocks, but of course so cold that you need a freezer to keep it. Inside the Monaka, you can find vanilla ice cream with a slice of chocolate.

When you actually have it, I'd like you to divide for checking the inside. You can find a chocolate film between the Monaka dough and vanilla ice cream. Why do they set such a chocolate film? It is said they set it first in 1998. For what? They say it is necessary for protecting the Monaka dough from moisture of ice cream. Monaka must be crispy. It becomes soft and pliant if the dough absorbs moisture of ice cream.

When did it appear first? It debuted as "Choco Monaka" in 1972. And it was renamed "Choco Monaka Jumbo" in 1996 when they increased the block number from 12 to 18. Surprisingly, they left the price as it had been although increased the block number. Naturally, they had to make up their mind to show a loss for a while. They believed it could be a hit. Thru the several hard years, the sales began to increase steadily in 2001. And somehow the sales have smoothly increased until 2019. Today it works as one of the main attractions of Morinaga & Company. And it is said Morinaga will open their new factory for manufacturing Choco Monaka Jumbo in 2021 Gunma, Japan.
