About our introductory articles

Ichigo-ni is the local dish in hachinohe-shi, Aomori prefecture. Ichigo means strawberry, ni does something boiled. The dish is a kind of soup dishes, using no strawberries. Why do they call it Ichigo-ni? It has sea urchin and abalone in the soup. And sea urchin's ovary looks like strawberry. So they began to call it Ichigo-ni, they say.

You can find Hachinohe at the east part of Aomori, facing the Pacific Ocean. And naturally, it is very popular as a port town. They are difficult to be short of seafood. However, just like other areas, sea urchin and abalone are very rare and expensive at the town. So they say they have supplied the soup dish for guests of honor who rarely appear.
