About our introductory articles

Setting apart Shizuoka, Kyoto or Kagoshima, we hardly know about the well-known tea in the Chugoku area of Japan. But Japanese are almost fond of tea. Naturally, the region has its special one.

Japanese call the tenth month of the lunar calendar 'Kannazuki,' as you know. Kannazuki means a month without any deities. It is said all of deities in Japan get together at the Izumo area in October. Then, in the district, they call the tenth month 'Kamiari-tsuki' which means a month with gods. The holy place, Izumo (Shimane prefecture) has its special tea; Izumo tea.

Kiwami is a kind of Izumo tea, produced by Tosui-en that has run since 1907. Kiwami means the top. It has got the first prize for four years in a row since 2010 at the competitive show in Shimane. Though they are also the first tencha (material of powdered green tea) cultivator in the prefecture, their sencha seems to have slight superiority in their career.

Shimane gained the 15th place on the green tea consumption in 2013, by prefecture. It was the first in the Chugoku area. By the way, their neighbor Tottori was the 43rd. Shimane is the place of tea in the district, namely. Kiwami is the best one of the tea shop which has been running over 100 years in Shimane. Why could it be not tasty?
