Allow me to introduce the beginning. In 1970, the World Expo was held in Osaka. Meiji big shots visited the Bulgaria Museum and got surprised a lot at deliciousness of the genuine yogurt, because Japanese had mostly had jelly-like yogurt using a coagulant at the time. Therefore, they decided to produce the true yogurt in Japan.

In 1971 March, through countless trials and errors, Meiji put “Meiji Plain Yogurt” on the market. It is said to be the first plain yogurt in Japan. Unable to make it with then Japanese, it was castigated as “Acid!” “Like rotten one!” and the like. Holding their belief, however, Meiji kept on producing the plain yogurt.

Bulgaria government did not allow Meiji to put the country name on their products at the time. Japanese are supposed to get the point, since Japanese will be offended if China or Korea tries to use the name “Japan” on their ones. Before long, Meiji’s passion made Bulgaria permit. In 1973, they were allowed to use the nation name and renamed as “Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt.”

“Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt” is the king of Japan yogurt, as mentioned above. Not just they use bacilli long-loved in Bulgaria, but also have worked as a great bridge between Japan and Bulgaria. The king has the reason to be grand.
