About our introductory articles

There's Nagasaki prefecture in Kyushu, Japan. And you can find Sasebo city in the northern area of Nagasaki. Today I'm talking about Sasebo-burger. It's the popular local dish of Sasebo, as you got by the name. Then, what's Sasebo-burger? you may ask. It is natural. But I suppose it is difficult to explain what it is in a sense.

In fact, all handmade hamburgers in Sasebo can be called Sasebo-burger. It means what? If you visit a wide park in Sasebo and cook some hamburgers there, they can automatically be Sasebo-burgers. You don't need to, of course, cook anything special. Just placing lettuce and meat patties inside sliced buns as usual makes you become a Sasebo-burger cook, when you do it within the Sasebo city. You may guess I'm only joking. I hardly care no matter what you think about me, but I can say so after reading the definition of Sasebo-burger.

What is the definition?
1. The hamburgers handmade within Sasebo city.
2. If possible, use materials produced in Nagasaki.
That's all.

Naturally, there are many kinds of hamburgers in Sasebo. When you travel to Sasebo, you can enjoy a variety of hamburgers. Why did hamburgers become so popular there? When World War 2 finished, Japan was a defeated country and became under control of the General Headquarters (America). Nagasaki was a port town, some American culture infiltrated more than other areas. It is the beginning of Sasebo-burger, they say.
