How Much Water Should They Collect?
Tori Shinjiro established the Tori Store in 1899 February when he was 20 years old. They say they produced and sold wine. Suntory, a Japanese popular drink brand, originally came from the store. They deal with many kinds of drink, not just alcohol now. Moreover, we can find their name Suntory in fields of flower arrangement and culture.
What made the Tori Store Suntory? There are several opinions, and we are hard to define what is correct. Tori Shinjiro already passed away, needless to mention. Anyway, it seems doubtless Suntory's TORY came from Tori, his family name.
They started as a wine producer. They must have known how important quality water was. Good sake never appears without good water. And it looks reasonable Suntory began to deal with natural water.
Originally, Japanese people didn't look highly at natural water. Many domestic districts had the springs with pure water. And they could mostly get safe water because tap-water was almost disinfected with chlorine since Taisho era. "We can easily get safe water." Who'd see natural water in a special light? However, a lot of industries went up after the World War 2. They enriched Japanese people, and on the other hand destroyed nature and health in Japan without hesitation. Japanese people desired to pay the money to safer water.
Then, Japanese people gradually started to buy natural water in 1980's. One record says they imported natural water a lot around 1990. It looks they eared so much by export and bought a lot of natural water. The current made Suntory produce their natural water. In 1991, they launched Suntory Natural Water at stores.
Where do they collect water? In Yamanashi since 1991, in Tottori since 2008, and in Kumamoto since 2003.
I'm a beginner, and wonder how much they should collect there a year. They say they sold over 117 million cases of the water in 2018. It is not a mystery because several disasters have came to us like Kumamoto Earthquake (2016) and North Osaka Earthquake (2018). Today we Japanese people are difficult to live unrelated to a disaster. So it is not unnatural many have bought natural water for disaster recovery assistance and disaster prevention. However, the sales mean they collected about a billion liter a year. Is it good to the nature? One man's worry says.
Suntory says they are establishing their new factory for Suntory Natural Water in 2020. Where? Nagano is it.
