■ How has Japanese pop music changed from 2002 when you started your website? Could you tell me your idea?

M: Well… I guess ballad songs with the strings have increased since just the middle of 2000s. Many artists took the way. I believe the peak has gone by.

■ Like Kameda Seiji who produced Hirai Ken’s “With My Eyes Closed?” (Hitomi wo Tojite)

M: Yes, Kameda and also Kabayashi Takeshi He is a producer of Mr.Children and My Little Lover, who used to arrange more colorfully. But in the middle of 2000s, Kobayashi produced a lot of pop songs painted with piano and the strings.

■ Mr.Children’s “(An Imitation) Blood Orange” (2012) is the ultimate, I know.

M: I agree. So it eased my mind listening to their brand-new work released this year, because I could solidly hear the guitar sound. At one time, it was almost difficult to listen to without concentration.

■ I see. LOL

Mr.Children / 常套句(2012)

M: Honma Akimitsu is one of the stereotyped arranger, I suppose. Listening to Porno Graffiti and Hirose Komi produced by him, I believed he was good at programming. Lately, every time he produces a ballad of Ikimono Gakari, we have to hear the strings. There must be another way, I think.

■ For sure, they have arranged in a similar way…

M: I used to regard melodies more important than arrangement. Getting older made me interested in musical arrangement and I guess they sound so.

M: Moreover, the best albums filled with songs too much have been on increase, recently. The listeners get satisfied with only that, and seldom move to other original ones. I believe they should not fill their songs too much when their career counts less than a decade.

■ Like Takahashi Yu? This year, he released his best album which consists of 30 songs, in the name of his fifth anniversary.

M: Before the best released, I had already heard him. I know Takahashi has many masterpieces of his own. However, I think it is hard for the beginners to listen to his 30 songs out of the blue. His style is packing a lot of words into a number. So even half, 15 songs still make them feel too much, I guess.

■ How about diffusion of online music distribution?

M: Not so spread. Mass media had to report the situations of that provision, just like CDs. If they did, it could be spread more…

■ Online music distribution is hard to let us know how much what song sells…

M: Didn’t all the makers desire to publish CDs, thinking about that?
