About our introductory articles

Hello. I'm here talking about Global, the Japanese kitchen knife brand by Yoshida Metal Industry Company. You have never heard the company name, you may say. They sometimes call themselves Yoshikin. Yoshi is from Yoshida and Kin means Metal. The company started as the western tableware maker in 1954 Niigata. And in 1983, they say they began to produce their stainless steel kitchen knife brand "Global."

Global, it sounds kind of exaggerated. I suppose, however, they were so proud of their products as dominating the whole world when they started the brand in 1983. As the name shows, they are the company who deals with metal and steel. In Japan of 1950's that they were established, the production volume of stainless steel was drastically on the increase. Japan ranked at the first of the production volume in 1970, had been at the top until 2006. It means that they were pretty natural to start as the company dealing with stainless steel.

In the end of the 20th century, they were highly growing up with processing steel and metal. And as widely known, Japan got into the bubble economy in 1980's while they were probably unconscious. So it is never hard to think that they were riding an up‐current of air in 1983 when they started the Global. And I suppose they had so self-confidence that named their new brand Global. How about their knives, then? It is all down to those who use them. Please try if you have a chance.
