Hello, everyone. I'm so pleased to see you here with me now. Today I'm talking about "Torarete-tamaruka !?" a Japanese 1994 film directed by Haginiwa Sada-aki. It is one of Japanese situation comedy, starring Takeda Tetsuya and Akashiya Sanma.

What story does it have? Mr. Tadano (starring Takeda Tetsuya) is an adult man who has worked for a ward office in Tokyo. By a housing loan, he got a detached house outside Tokyo. With his two children (daughter and son) and his dearest wife poor at cooking, he spends happy life there.

One day, a thief starring Akashiya Sanma breaks into the house. Tadano gets surprised and angry. How nice breaking into the happy life!

Tadano depends on police and a security company naturally. The thief keeps on burgling the house through the dragnet, however. Tadano gets angry again. Why did the fucking thief keep on breaking into this house with insistence!? For what? Children look coldly on their father made a fool of by the invisible thief.

He is the head of a family, and must protect his beloved home! Tadano solidly believes. Then, he begins to build up his body and to remodel his house on his own into a stronghold. Why does the thief keep on breaking into the house with insistence? Can Tadano protect what he loves after all affairs? Please check it out actually.

Offensive-and-defensive battles against someone unknown. This film's outline is it. We are not difficult to find the movies which use the outline, like Die Hard (John McTiernan, 1988) and Home Alone (Chris Columbus, 1990). So I cannot say the outline is so rare that you have to watch. I suppose we are, regardless of generation and nationality, all fond of seeing offensive-and-defensive battles. Then, I believe the focal point of this film is "how the thief assails" and "how Mr. Tadano defends."

This film didn't so hit. I guess it didn't make a hit because this film was based on nothing but a manly point of view. Checking the credits roll tells us that no women worked at the important positions like directing, producing, planning and writing. So it is difficult to say this film includes a feminine point of view. For instance, Mr. Tadano doesn't unite in order to beat the thief back. He goes alone for protecting his sweet home. His wife and two children aren't described as his cooperators. That seems like a stereotype of a manly point of view. And I wonder what female watchers feel by this film. "Foolish!" they might say.

In '90's, the center of Japanese culture was mostly taken up by young women (Kogals). I suppose it was difficult to make a hit under the situation with a film women were hard to sympathize.
