About our introductory articles

Hello, everyone. I'm so pleased to see you here with me now. Today I'm talking about "Hero" a 2007 film. In 2001, the TV drama Hero was on air. It made a hit and 6 years later, the film was released. It was also a big hit with box-office revenue exceeding 8 billion yen. However, it didn't touch my heartstrings at all somehow when I watched it. Why didn't it hit me at all? Why did it take 6 years for film making? Let's think about the questions together.

First, I'd like to explain about the film in a simple way. The main character is Kuryu starring Kimura Takuya from Smap (at the time). Kuryu is a public prosecutor who loves to mail-order. He and his mates (prosecutors) take the justice side. Lawyers and a Diet man starring Tamori take the bad. Through many things that happen and go, Kuryu and his mates run to the ending.

The battlefield is a law court, but it looks just a little bit mysterious. When it was a TV drama, we rarely found the characters at a law court. Actually, Japanese prosecutors mostly do desk work. A question comes up. Why did the filmmaker set a law court as the main battle field of the movie?

I suppose it had to be a law court.

Let me show my conclusion now. I believe the film was made for spreading propaganda for citizen judge system. The law of citizen judge system enacted in the 2004 Diet, and citizen judge system actually came into operation in 2009 Japan.

That hypothesis explains why the Hero became a film after a long sleep. It didn't need to be a film in 2001 or 2002. The film was up in 2007 for making the watchers familiar with a law court, making them believe it was the sacred field of justice. If the film was made for nothing but spreading propaganda, I can be convinced that watching it brought me to nowhere. The film was up there for spreading propaganda, not for impressing me.

This is just my opinion. If the film impresses you favorably, I would like you to all forget my hypothesis.
