About our introductory articles

Hello. Today I'm talking about Maiko Haaaan!!! It is a Japanese live action film released in 2007 June, marked a record high of one million visitors for about a month. And in 2008, it was also released in the United States like New York and San Fransisco.

It featured Maiko as the title tells. Do you know what Maiko is? They are apprentice geisha girls that you can sometimes find in Kyoto streets.

The main character Onizuka Kimihiko (Abe Sadao) was a big fan of Maiko. He worked for a food company in Tokyo. And frequently went to Kyoto from Tokyo for taking photos of Maiko in his holidays. He deeply idolized Maiko girls. One day, he was relegated to the Kyoto Branch. He walked on air, easily decided to be separated from his lover Osawa Fujiko (Shibasaki Ko). All he loved was just Maiko, and didn't care about normal women. He said goodbye to Fujiko without hesitation. She got mad, tried to thrust in a frenzy. Anyway, he moved to Kyoto. But what could he do? There are many unfamiliar with Maiko although they live in Kyoto. He had to be one of them. Geisha (Maiko) are as unattainable as the stars. And that's why many people idolize them.

Kimihiko was almost at his wits' end. For what did he move to Kyoto? Then, he worked very hard, struggled for getting familiar with Maiko. On the other hand, Fujiko was still attached to him. She called him with determination, but he did not answer. He was too busy for getting familiar with Maiko to talk with his ex-girlfriend. But Fijiko couldn't give him up, decided to move to Kyoto from Tokyo where she'd lived. What was she going to do in Kyoto? She made a decision to become a Maiko and meet Kimihiko again.

What would he do after all? What would the two do at the end? I would like you to check it actually.

The script was written by Kudo Kankuro who was a favorite of the times '00's. In '00's, he became widely popular as a fresh comedy scriptwriter. And it was directed by Mizuta Nobuo who'd directed several comedy dramas. What does it mean? Maiko Haaaan!!! had to be nothing but a comedy. I would like you to taste a Japanese hit comedy in 2000's.
