Golden Bomber is a Japanese Visual Kei group in twenty first century, and Imitation Gold is, not a song sung by Yamaguchi Momoe, their mini album released on January 1, 2009. It includes only five songs, but clearly shows and introduces Golden Bomber themselves.
I would like you to know, firstly, they are a Visual Kei group but not a Visual Kei band because they do not play any guitar, bass, and drums. Only vocal, Kiryuin Sho, sings actually. All songs of Imitation Gold were written by just him. Other members perform dancing, playing around on their stage and at TV shows.
Their policy says Visual Kei can do anything when they wear some make-up. Surely, Visual Kei means a make-up, however not a type of music like rock, heavy metal, jazz and so on. Golden Bomber nicely uses the commonsense and seems to be playing Visual Kei itself.
So, does that mean their songs are all in vain? It all depends on you, any way. Imitation Gold has five songs; Another Melody, Tsunami no Johnny, Say No, ultra PHANTOM and Man no Yoru wo Koete. All songs are parodies of Japanese popular songs though the names might let you notice. No, I have to appreciate them as homage.
For instance, there is a unit named CHAGE and ASKA in Japan, and there is their popular song; SAY YES released in 1991. This Say No approaches it so closely. The ultra PHANTOM is naturally from B’z songs; ultra soul and LOVE PHANTOM.
Kiryuin Sho who wrote all the songs, was born in 1984. He must thoroughly have analyzed the songs which have influenced him deeply, and created these five songs politely. Then, these could be a good mirror of Golden Bomber.
