That includes 16 songs which published after 2013 and does not contain old singles like “Dirty Old Man” (2006) and “I Am Your Singer” (2008).
You can get the liner notes written by Kuwata Kaisuke with the limited edition. It also includes a DVD which shows us 4 songs from their countdown concert 2014 to 2015. Oricon says the “Budo” sold 500,776 until June 17, 2015.
Southern All Stars are all around 60 years old and then, most of the songs were written in a view of the aged. That caused their new charm. In other words, it is not supposed to give you fresh songs singing about puppy love or something like that.
Talking about the songs, it looks Kuwata Keisuke intentionally sealed his past singing way. Moreover, joining Soga Jun-ichi on arrangement seems to add new taste at every tune. “道” sounds like David Bowie, because of Soga probably. According to “Rockin’On Japan” 2015 April issue, Kuwata Keisuke said “I guessed there was what we had never experienced. We are perhaps out of date, but still have something to try.”
Usually, we get to 60s and almost feel motivations decrease. Southern All Stars didn’t rely on their past hit songs like “Tsunami” and tried to reach to the next, although aged, however. Listening to “Budo” tells us they are still beating and going on.
Life is including aging, death and absurdity. “Budo” sounds beside our life and gets us temporarily happy, because pop music must be supposed to work for giving us delight when listened to or experienced.
