There are still many young singers who would like to be popular ones in Japan. Some can be, others cannot be as you know. What is the divide? Luck? Talent? Or connection? No one knows. So many people divine for the clue even today. And (of course) I am not going to fool them at all.

Yamazaki Aoi is a Japanese female singer born in 1993 Hokkaido. When she was only a teenager, she found Yui (the Japanese female singer who became popular around 2007) and aimed for the popular singer. Aoi won the Yamaha music contest while being a high school student, made her major debut from Victor Entertainment in 2012. She had released her singles and studio albums from the major company. But her discography tells us the contract with Victor became null and void in 2017. I don’t know why, she became an almost freelance. And in 2020 April, she released her 6th studio album “marble.”

Aoi and I have never known each other. Then I don’t know why she got out from Victor Entertainment, why she kept singing and creating her new songs though they were mostly beyond hope of becoming popular.

She named “marble” since it contained a variety of feelings she expressed. I believe the official account. But I am sorry the songs almost sound boring to me. I am easy to suppose she has been on a tight budget. And she was mostly unable to make meaningful tryouts in the arrangement enough. The tighter the budget is, the poorer the songs sound. At least it can be so in Japan.

I am not going to say she’d better give it up. It is all up to her, I don’t like to say extra things carelessly. However, I am hard to see what she desires to be. Staying a singer-songwriter is her goal? Or being a popular singer? It is hard to know. Listening to the “marble” cannot show me the answer. Maybe she is also lost in a maze. Perhaps “marble” means confusion. And who can fool her in this modern society that already lost a certain standard?
