All Songs Written by Kusano Masamune
Produced by Spitz & Kameda Seiji
Spitz is, not a kind of dogs, a Japanese rock band of high popularity, as they have sold over 20,000,000 copies. They were originally formed in 1987 and made their major debut on Polydor Records in 1991. So their “zero” could be 1987 or 1991. Their second zero is within their tenth studio album “Mikazuki Rock” released in 2002.

Mikazuki means a Crescent Moon. And that straightly suggests nights. Right, it thoroughly contains 13 songs about nights. The first song is “夜を駆ける” (Run at Night) and dawn appears on the last one “けもの道” (Desire Path).

I interviewed with Takeuchi Osamu who has worked with Spitz as their creative director ever since their major debut. He said ““Mikazuki” would be a favorite word of Kusano Masamune who has written most songs of Spitz, because Kusano used the word also on “Robinson” released in 1995. To tell the truth, Spitz used Crescent Studio for making the 2002 album and named it “Mikazuki Rock.””

Well, why can we find their alternative zero on “Mikazuki Rock?” For asking a cue, I am making Takeuchi Osamu turn up here again.

“In 1999, Spitz had to release their single selection album “Recycle” because of a lopsided argument by Universal Music. It was reasonable that they felt frustrated. Putting it on their 2000 album “Hayabusa,” they turned out to reset themselves. Then, “Mikazuki Rock” could be their new beginning to the present.”

Perhaps, Kusano Masamune sincerely needed a second start in those days. There are some songs which excelled at lyric description like “ババロア” (Bavarois) and other song, “ミカンズのテーマ” (Mikans’ Theme), he wrote assuming they reformed a new band. In a good sense, you can hear variety through “Mikazuki Rock.”

Getting what Spitz is, you cannot avoid “Mikazuki Rock,” since it includes the end of old Spitz and the beginning point of their way to present.
