I had looked forward to getting this album for a long time. I can say so. How long time had I waited? Close to 12 years. One decade passed while I had waited. What am I talking about? you may ask. I am talking about “Raison d'être” the 42nd studio album of Sada Masashi. I am not dealing with anything difficult, but I suppose this beginning is not kind to most readers. I am letting the story march in order.
Sada Masashi is a Japanese male singer-songwriter born in 1952 Nagasaki. He formed the folk duo “Grape” with Yoshida Masami in 1972, and debuted in 1973. They released several hit songs, but broke up before long. And Sada debuted as a solo singer in 1976.
I was born in 1984, am never familiar with what he used to be in the 20th century. I knew him in the middle of 00’s and got interested in his songs. He appeared as a guest in the 2007 Xmas Promise, the annual TV program that Oda Kazumasa has presided over. Oda is a Japanese male singer-songwriter who debuted in 1970. Sada and he have known each other since 70’s. 2007 was the special year that Oda became 60 years old. 60th birthday means especial in Japan, as it is called Kan-reki. Then Sada and he decided to create the special song together. I saw how they created with the video aired on the 2007 Xmas Promise. Sada wrote the words, Oda composed, and the two sang. The special song “たとえば(for instance)” was performed in the program. I watched it and felt so good. However, the song had been left alone by both for a long time. The two had not stored it in their CDs.
Time passed away, Sada decided to take the song in his studio album. And it was his 42nd one, released in 2020 May. Then I said above that I had waited for this album close to 12 years.
How about other songs? I have nothing to describe especially. For example, “ペンギン皆きょうだい2020” mentions about environment issues, I cannot agree with what he sang. Today international commonsense tells us that global warming is almost a swindle. Some swindlers said around 2000, that global warming would make polar ices melt away and polar bears hard to survive before too long. But the bears have increased about 30% for this decade actually. So I am no interested in his propaganda. In other words, I sympathize with him partially, but don’t trust overall.
