I suppose you are almost unfamiliar with Tube. Aren’t you? Tube is a Japanese rock band that consists of four men. They made their debut in 1985, have released several hit songs about summer. And that made them a symbol of Japan’s summer in 1980’s and 90’s. Every time summer came to Japan, we heard them sing a song. Were they like the Beach Boys? some might ask. We can say yes in a sense. But their fathers didn’t harass them, and they have never broken up.

Oh, I am not here to mention about the legendary rock band. And I must pick up the 2020 studio album of Tube now. It is “Hello from Japan’s Summer.” It is the 34th studio album that came out in 2020 July, ranked at the 3rd on Oricon Weekly Album Chart. Their 33rd one was out in 2015. It means they released their album after an interval of 5 years.

As mentioned above, Tube have worked as a symbol of Japanese summer. In Japan, many people still associate their songs with summer. So we should have said long time no see to their release with joy, as saying it to summer. But that couldn’t be in reality.

2020 Japan was darkly covered with the pandemic of Covid-19. And it still keeps on today in 2020 December. We couldn’t spend summertime in 2020, as yesterdays. Before everything, all rock bands got impossible to hold their concerts like before, for infection prevention. Tube was, too. Then, they got no way to entertain their audience directly. They were unable to meet their listeners directly. Under the situation, how should they have directly greeted Tube? It was a difficulty.

Many rock bands said their songs grew up when they were performed before the audience at their concerts. Without the audience, music cannot grow up. In other words, this studio album can stand at the true starting point when they perform the songs before the audience. It was released in 2020 July, but it has not started yet in 2020 December.
