About our introductory articles

"Bosco" is a set of wooden pencils produced by Gotanda Seisaku-sho in Tokyo. They are not a stationery maker, but a furniture one.

「BOSCO」

Hardness: HB

What is special on the set of 10 pencils, "Bosco?" In fact, they use each different wood like rosewood and zelkova, for making the pencils. Scarlet-tinged ivy is used for the trays, by the way. It means you can know and touch 11 kinds of trees by using the pencils.

Gotanda Seisaku-sho says they have once produced the special sets in 1990s. However, at the time, difficulty on the processing made them stop the production. It is said it is difficult because they use hard timbers that usually go for furniture upon the pen-holders.

It solved the question that they joined hands together with a great artisan Mr. Matsui mainly active in Aichi. He knows all characters of each wood and then, adequately changes them into pencils.

Today, it is difficult to recognize nature rightly, because we have been far from nature without any human-made function. Using the pencils, we can learn characters of each wood. If you or your children were kind of unfamiliar with nature, the sets can help to feel a part of mother nature.
